Many months ago as I traveled through my home town of Bayport, New York with my two children, a young man in a small Volkswagen decided to attempt passing me on a one lane highway. As he tried every possible way to get ahead of me he came upon two young boys crossing the street on bicycles...missing them by only inches. I was so upset at what I was witnessing that I decided (against what most people would recommend) to follow him into a 7-Eleven parking lot where he proceed to park. I positioned my truck behind his vehicle and opened my window. With an attitude, he asked "What's the matter?", as if he didn't know! I proceeded to explain to him that he came very close to causing harm to many people he passed on his way. I was not surprised when he seemed uninterested in what I had to say. My only hope was that he would remember my words when he had time to reflect on the events of his day.
My words to him were the cold hard truth...driving can harm and kill. I left him with one thought..."How do you think your parents would feel if they knew your driving behavior?" I wished terribly that I could tell his parents about the incident and thought for months of the details that finally led to the creation of Trac My Ride. Although there are many expensive tracking devices available on the market today, nothing can replace the report of an eye witness. GPS systems are costly and provide basic information. Having your teen driver know that he/she can be identified at any time creates a sense of consciousness they may not have felt before. This sense of "identity" may actually prevent the inexperienced driver from attempting to disobey safe driving practices.
It is our intention at Trac My Ride to protect and reinforce safe driving by offering this driver monitoring service for a nominal fee to cover the basic expenses that
accompany it with the sole purpose of creating a safer environment for all.
